We finished up our study of President Washington and President Lincoln by making a comparison between the two men.
Another part of our President's Day activities was a lesson presented by Miss Banach, our college student. She began by introducing students to some of the tricky vocabulary in a book she would be reading during her lesson.
Next, she read the book titled "My Teacher for President" by Kay Winter.
Students were then asked to write reasons (opinion) why their teacher would make a good president.
The following day we read a book titled "If I Ran for President" by Catherine Stier. We created a list on chart paper of the characteristics of a good president as mentioned in the book and also, included some from the previous days discussion
The boys and girls used a graphic organizer to write down three characteristics they thought best described themselves. Then, the organizer was used as a guide as they wrote a persuasive piece on why they should be the President of the United States.
As you can see, we have some very promising future candidates!
Of course, we couldn't forget the Tooth Fairy during Dental Health month! The kiddos wrote about a time they lost a tooth.
We also read several stories about the tooth fairy and then the students wrote what they thought she does with all of those teeth she collects each night. We also make some cute Tooth Fairies to accompany the writing. The kiddos love it every time we get out the glitter!
With lots of indoor recess everyone has gotten very good at putting together puzzles. This is a good lesson in cooperation and team work!
Now, we are on top of St. Patrick's Day, rainbows and lots of green! Stay tuned for some leprechaun fun!
